At Waves to Home, we believe that every human is a storyteller. Our philosophy is rooted in creating safe spaces for refugees, migrants, displaced, and Indigenous communities to share their stories, stories carrying pain, hope, resilience, and the longing for home. We stand at the intersection of storytelling, peacebuilding, trauma and healing, and justice, knowing that healing happens both individually and collectively. We use storytelling as a peaceful weapon, transforming shared pain into power, shame into liberation, and victimhood into warriorhood. By reframing the stories we tell ourselves, we end cycles of silence and violence, and create new cycles of life, love, and peace. Here, storytelling is not just expression, it’s a path to healing, belonging, and collective transformation & liberation.
To create a global movement for and with refugees, migrants, displaced, and Indigenous people to reclaim our narratives, transform pain into strength, and inspire the world with our resilience.
To provide a safe and inclusive space for refugees, migrants, displaced, and Indigenous people to share their stories, not as victims, but as warriors, using storytelling as a tool for personal liberation, collective healing, and social change.
The impact we want to create begins with the stories we tell ourselves, inner storytelling. We imagine a journey that starts within, where we reframe the narratives that have held us back, transforming pain into strength and shame into pride. From there, we move to outer storytelling, where we share our stories with the world, creating genuine human connection, belonging, and collective healing. And finally, we step into impact storytelling, using our stories as tools to challenge injustice, build peace, and create change. By starting with the stories inside us, we believe we can change the stories around us, and ultimately, change the world.
We carry memories into today to find meaning
We look inward, seeking clarity
We dream and create new visions collectively
For the first time in a long time, I felt that my story truly matters, not because it is unique, but because it resonates. Listening to others opened my eyes to the lives behind their pain and resilience.
Storytelling allowed me to explore different forms of expression and reconnect with my inner child. I realised how naturally we hold on to pain, when we could choose instead to carry the lessons and make space for joy
I haven’t fully found the words yet, I found pieces of myself in others and in the land. What began with fear has become a story I now carry with love, and one I would return to again and again.
