Waves to Home had the honour of facilitating a storytelling workshop during the “Integration of Young Migrants and Refugees” study session at the European Youth Centre in Budapest, held from May 19–23 🇭🇺
The workshop “Lived Experiences and Good Practices: Storytelling, Mentorship, Combating Hate Speech” explored how storytelling can be a powerful, human-centred tool to counter hate speech and elevate lived experiences that are too often overlooked.
The room brought together youth workers from across Europe and Türkiye, as well as young refugees from Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Senegal. Together, we uncovered the strength in our voices, shared stories that build empathy, and reflected on how narratives can challenge stereotypes, shift perspectives, and spark real change.
To everyone who participated with courage, honesty, and openness thank you. You remind us why this work matters, and why storytelling will always be a force for connection and transformation.
