Fayez Abu Bakr Mohammad Nour – Through the Lens of Hope

Country: Sudan

Capturing the Soul of Sudan

My name is Fayez Abu Bakr Mohammad Nour, and I am a documentary photographer and journalist.
I believe that everything in Sudan is like beauty itself — so I decided to document this beauty in all its details and to convey it with honesty and love, defying all challenges.

We were living a normal life despite difficulties. We had dreams, projects, and a vision for the future.
Then, suddenly, the war broke out — and we lost everything. Overnight, life turned from light to shadow, from hope to an unknown reality.

Bearing Witness

Since 2019, I have worked to document steadfastness and resistance — from the beginnings of the popular movement until today. In Sudan, there are still real signs of resilience, especially among the youth: young people who had a cause, who believed in democracy, who carried a strength greater than fear.

But war has changed everything.
Still, I remain optimistic — because hope exists. Because I still have the ability to capture and share that hope, even in the darkest moments.

Through my lens, I continue to document our pain and our perseverance. I find beauty not only in the landscapes of Sudan, but in its people — their dignity, their endurance, their humanity.
The aesthetics of Sudan live endlessly within its people.

Holding On to Hope

No one can say what the future holds for Sudan, but I choose optimism.
I believe in life, and I hold on to hope despite everything.
I believe I can still serve my country — through my camera, my stories, my truth.

There are many poems that remind me of Sudan, reflecting both its reality and the beauty of its soul. I cling to every detail I loved about the environment I grew up in — and I strive to convey it through my work.

A Call to the World

Everyone has a role to play.
Social media has become a powerful tool — I hope people will use it to share what is happening in Sudan, to speak of the war and of the needs of its people.
May our collective voice help lift Sudan out of this crisis.

I hope the war will end soon — that people will return home, to their families, their communities, and their normal lives.

Sudan deserves peace. Sudan deserves life.

Thank you.
